Tips For Treadmill Running!

Whether it’s due to bad weather or there isn’t a safe route to run on, sometimes we have to do our runs on the treadmill. The treadmill has gotten a bad rap and is even referred to as the “dreadmill”. However, here’s a few ways to make treadmill running more enjoyable!

Treadmill Running: Break Up Your Runs

If it’s possible, break up your mileage so you don’t have one big chunk. I’m guilty of getting bored on the treadmill. However if I’m able to do shorter run with something else in between, I feel more motivated to get it done! If you’re stuck in doors, schedule a “bootcamp” style workout so you can get your miles in without the monotony!

Treadmill Running: Make It A Game

There’s lots of cool ways to make treadmill running more interesting. Zwift is a really cool app where you can run virtually in other places. Using a footpod or a compatible treadmill, you can join others on “group runs” all over the world!

Treadmill Running: Watch A Movie or a Show

Sometimes you just have to turn something on while you run. I used to do this in college and as long as you can maintain good form while you’re running, I’m all for it! I would be mindful of using this method because you can get disoriented and you definitely don’t want to stumble on a moving belt!

Treadmill Running: Take A Class

Peloton has awesome running classes that help pass the time. With everything from hill classes to speedwork, it’s easy to find a class for the type of workout you’re trying to do. Nordictrack also offers cool scenic runs on their platform to make those treadmill miles a bit easier. There is an ever growing library of running classes available online through various different exercise companies!

Those are just a few of my tips for treadmill running. Ideally you do want to get a majority of your miles outside but I understand that life doesn’t always work that way.

Do you have any tips to make treadmill running a bit easier?
