Easing Into A New Month

Happy September friends! This time of year is usually the beginning of the school year for many but I know we’re in a weird situation now. Whatever the situation is for you, I invite you to ease into the new month.

New Month

Many athletes seek to improve on the past month with big goals. Whether that’s miles run or workouts done, it tends to be something bigger and better. However, our new normal has a few of us running at about 50% capacity. I think now it a good time to take a step back mentally and slowly ease into a new month and new season.

Why not take the time in September to reflect on the pandemic summer you had? This summer probably didn’t have too many vacations but you probably have some interesting memories saved up for the future. Did you get creative and have a social distance picnic with friends? Did you go to one of the many pop up drive in theaters across the country? I’m sure you had some fun times in the comfort of your own home.

After reflecting on what your summer was like, what’s something you’d like to continue doing this month? Do you want to continue to make drive-in movie dates a weekly thing? Why not have relaxing walks outdoors to really take in the season changes? If your kiddos are back in school, take some time with them and see what they are feeling. Children tend to look at how the adults are feeling for guidance.

Many people are trying to rush back to “normal” but I think we need to slow down a bit. It’s very tempting to rush everything to get “back to how it used to be” but I think it’s not smart. Taking the time to ease into our new lives will help in the long run. As you begin to plan your goals for the month, take some time to reflect on the past few weeks. Don’t rush to set these goals in stone. With time to reflect, you can set small attainable goals and progress much more in the long run.

How are you easing into the new month and season?
