Wodapalooza Training Wrap Up!

ocean under cloudy sky

The week is finally here! I’ve been working hard since about October so I almost can’t believe that it’s finally the week to head to Miami! Now it’s time to rest and trust the training. I’m nervous and excited and can’t wait to be on that beach!

If you missed my post about what Wodapalooza is, click here to read!

I spoke a little about this in last week’s post but part of my Wodapalooza training was learning how to swim. There has been a swimming portion in the past years and I wanted to be prepared. Obviously I’m still very much a beginner so it may be that I make a game day decision and skip that workout if I’m not comfortable. I’m proud of myself for showing up to my lessons and pushing myself week after week and getting comfortable in the water.

My training schedule was pretty set. There was some flexibility so I could enjoy workouts with friends but for the most part, the structure stayed the same. Wodapalooza is notorious for having a beach run every year so I made sure to get in some miles each week. My trusty Peloton Tread came in handy because as the holidays creeped up on me. I would hop on to get miles whenever I could! That was the main thing that kept me on my training plan, get in workouts whenever possible.

Balance was also a huge thing for my training this time around. A huge chunk of my training happened during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. I’m not gonna lie. Some days the last thing I wanted to do was work out. Staying in bed and doing nothing sounded amazing. However I knew that I would look back and not be happy with that decision. There were days where I did shorter workouts to allow for extra family time. There were days where I did quick (15 minutes or less) workouts while dinner was in the oven. Small workouts like these added up so I’m glad I kept at it.

One major lesson I learned during these past few months is that I need to give it my all at the end of workouts. A major bad habit of mine is watching the clock count down and slowing down with it. It’s easy to let my mind wander but focusing on finishing the workout is key! Once I made that mental shift, I started seeing high scores in my workouts at the gym and better output on my Peloton runs and spin classes.

This training cycle has been one of my favorites. Although I would have preferred that it didn’t happen during the holiday season but it turned out for the best. I was able to stay on track and I’m proud of my progress! I am so excited for Miami and I can’t wait to see how it goes!

Now it’s time to rest up and count down the hours until I get on that plane on Thursday!
