Trying Out Daily Harvest

I am back with yet another meal service review! It’s quite fun trying these services out because they have become very popular in recent times. Not everyone has time to cook so these meal services can be a huge help. Today I’ll be sharing my thoughts on Daily Harvest.

Trying Out Daily Harvest

As I said in my last post about Factor Meals these are my 100% honest thoughts. I paid for this with my own money and did not get any freebies from Daily Harvest. Trying out meal services this way allows me to give you my real thoughts without holding back. Now, let’s get to it!

Daily Harvest started out as a healthy smoothie company. They were very popular on Instagram and I’m sure you’ve seen many people in the influencer world talking about them. Recently, they’ve expanded their line of products to include flatbreads, oat bowls, harvest bowls, soups, and pints of ice cream. They are delivered to you frozen with instructions to keep in the freezer. Everything is frozen at the peak of freshness and ready in minutes. While this is true, I felt like there was some “assembly required”

Other meal services that offer quick meals usually mean, you heat and they’re ready in minutes. While in theory Daily Harvest works that way, you have to provide a milk for the smoothies, oat bowls, broth for the harvest bowls, and soups. Not too terribly bad but it did require an extra step for me. I ordered this when I was running short on time so this was a bit of a hiccup for me.

Another takeaway from Daily Harvest is that is was not truly a meal. Now they don’t advertise themselves completely as a meal service but still. The soup was good (after I added my own broth) and the harvest bowls held me over until dinner but it wasn’t great. While I enjoyed the fact that their offerings contained a lot of fresh veggies (which everyone can use more of), it just felt lackluster to me.

Another thing that bugged me a bit was the price. The small box came out to be roughly $60. If you get a box with nine items that’s a little over $6.50 per item. I think that’s way too much for a smoothie with fruits that you can easily throw together yourself.

I am a person that does not like to waste food but the first smoothie I tried wasn’t good. The flavors were very tart and I made myself finish it. However, I would not recommend that to anyone. Also, their oat bowls were just….not great. I prepared them the two methods recommended by Daily Harvest (warm and soaked overnight) and again, I was not impressed. Their harvest bowl was lentils and veggies. Again, you can throw together your own bowl of this for way cheaper than $6.50 a bowl.

Bottom line, Daily Harvest is not for me and I do not recommend it. If it’s a matter of convenience and you want something to toss in the freezer for a quick bite, you can give it a shot. I would advise against paying full price and getting a coupon code if you want to give it a try.

Have you ever tried a meal service you didn’t like?
