Fitbit Surge Review!

In this day and age of staying connected, there is no shortage of smartwatches and fitness trackers around! I have had a few of these since I got in early during the fitness tracker phase. I currently own a Fitbit Surge and it has been my absolute favorite! I decided to do a quick review on it and share a bit of how I use it day to day.

Surge Fitbit

The Fitbit Surge

The Surge is one of the fitness trackers in the line of many. What I like about Fitbit is that they are always improving on their products. They have many different styles for different needs and lifestyles. I gravitated for the Surge because it has built in GPS.  As I’ve said before, my phone’s GPS isn’t the best and I didn’t want to pair my fitness tracker with it during runs.

The Surge is an all day fitness tracker which means that you can wear it throughout your day and it records your stats. It tracks steps, calories, heart rate, distance, and floors. It’s got a neat touch screen that senses when you look at it and lights up. The design is one of the bigger ones in the market as far as wearables go but it’s sturdy enough to go with you throughout your day.

MultiSport Tracking

One of the things that set the Fitbit apart is that you can use it for multiple types of workouts. You can track outdoor activity such as running, walking, and biking and you’ll get GPS readings. You can also track indoor workouts, weight lifting, yoga, and circuit training. You actually have the option to choose with the Fitbit app what activities show up on your watch so you can track accordingly. It also has SmartTrack that automatically recognizes and selects exercises for you when it senses that you’re on the go. I like to use this during my spin class to see my heart rate and calories burned. There’s something about finishing a class and seeing that you burned off 500 calories that makes you feel good (even though I don’t track!).

Running Performance

What drew me to purchase the Surge was the performance during running. You actually have multiple modes within the running activity that you can chose: Free Run, Treadmill Run, Lap Run. I use Free Run and I can get time, distance, pace, and splits while I am running. I like this for days when I want to stay under a certain pace. I never have issues with the GPS and I find that it is just as accurate to other trackers, if not more.

Durability

The surge has a touchscreen but this thing is tough! There’s been a few times during the day that I have bumped my arm but it’s still in one piece! There’s not scratches or nicks on my screen and I’ve had this for about a year. The wristband is made up of a made of a flexible, durable elastomer material. After every workout, I give it a quick wipe down and wipe it down with a wet washcloth once a week. It’s still just as study as the day I bought it!

There’s a sensor on the underside that records your heart rate during your workouts and throughout your day. I haven’t had any issues with it and I honestly don’t feel it’s there. I make sure to wipe it down often to avoid any sweat build up.

Other Uses

The Surge also tracks sleep but I don’t use it. If you leave it on overnight, it’s supposed to sense when you fall asleep and when you wake up throughout the night. I’ve used this setting with older Fitbit trackers and always had good results so I imagine that the Surge performs even better. The Surge can also connect with your phone through Bluetooth to receive call and text notifications. You can’t answer through the Surge but you see who is calling and you can read any new texts.

Overall, I am really happy with the Surge. It’s durable and it fits very well with my lifestyle. I can use it for various workouts and I think it’s worth the price.

Do you wear a fitness tracker? Are you eyeing one for the holiday season?
