Feeling Race FOMO!

RT 66 FOMO

Happy Monday guys! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break. I ended up taking a bit of a break and just enjoying time with family and friends. It was a fun filled week and I’m very thankful for the break. Now onto today’s topic, have you ever felt race FOMO? Fear of missing out is definitely a bit issue now that we are so easily connected with social media. I usually don’t dwell on it but with a bit of a running hiccup, I had to drop out of the Route 66 Half Marathon. It’s safe to say I was feeling the race FOMO.

Feeling Race FOMO

Disclaimer: I received free entry to Route 66 Half Marathon as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!

Look, I get it. Like happens! Whether it is injury or something unexpected came up, there may be a time where you will have to defer a race or drop down the distance. I’ve actually done before and you’d be surprised at how common it is. It’s also easy to beat ourselves up about it. Even though things can happen that are out of our control, it’s usually easier to just blame ourselves. I’m here to let you know that that’s not true! If you do ever have to drop out of a race, here are a few tips to help make it easier for you.

Remind Yourself That It’s Not Your Fault

I can’t say this again: it’s not your fault! Life happens. Continually remind yourself of this. After Chicago, I had my calf strain which I thought would heal in time for me to run Route 66. It didn’t but there was truly nothing I could do about it. I had to remind myself that taking care of my body would be better in the long run and sitting this one out was for the best!

Be There Virtually If You Can

Guys. the Route 66 Race Instagram page was popping on race weekend! They posted constant updates and so many cool sneak peeks on their stories. I was able to share in some of the events due to their media presence. This really made me feel connect. Plus, I LOVED how they recorded and congratulated ALL THE FINISHERS. I’m talking the marathoners that finished at the 7 and 8 hour mark. Seriously, how awesome was that? I truly felt their joy and it was so sweet to see and very inspiring.

Cheer On Other Runners

I was given the opportunity to run this with due to the fact that I am a BibRave Pro. Even though I wasn’t able to make it, there were two other awesome ladies who did! Amy and Emily both ran the half marathon and had a blast! I followed their journey all over social media and it was so awesome to see how they did. Being able to cheer them on helped me avoid throwing a pity party. Check out their recaps! Emily’s Blog Post  Amy’s Blog Post

There you have it! I hope that you never have to drop out of a race but life happens! I know many runners that have had it happen and eventually we all come back from it. I truly enjoyed sharing the experience along with other BibRave Pros and it will be a race that will be on my calendar next year! I’m very thankful for the opportunity and can’t wait to run on Route 66 next fall!
