Summer Safety Tips!

Summer Safety Tips

I don’t know about you guys but it sure it toasty around here. I feel bad because I’ve been limiting my dog walks so my girl doesn’t get tired. She’s not chubs but she gets so excited so fast and wears herself out before we finish walking the block. Like pups, we need to take care of ourselves during the summer. Here are a few summer safety tips!

Summer Safety Tips

Tip #1: Time It Accordingly

Obviously the heat is a big factor for us. If you’re working out or doing activities outdoors, the biggest tip I would recommend is to limit the time you’re outside. Try to aim for sunrise or sunset when the temps aren’t as bad and the sun isn’t directly beating down on you. One mile at 6AM as the sun is coming up feels a lot different than one mile with the midday sun beating down on you.

Tip #2: Bug Spray and Sunscreen

I’ve talked about this in an earlier post but make sure to protect your skin! I try to get the sunscreen that has lotion in it so it doesn’t feel sticky. For some reason if I just think of it as lotion, I actually remember to put it on before going outside. Also if you’re dealing with heat and humidity, you know all about mosquitoes! They don’t bother me as much but it’s better to be safe and use bug spray when you know there’s a chance you can get bit.

Tip #3: Hydrate and Know Your Limits

While it can be easy to go on about your business like you normally would, summer can be deceptive. If you’re working out outside, it wouldn’t hurt to scale it back a bit as the temps rise. It’s easy to push hard but if you’re not listening to your body, you can easy get overheated. Stay hydrated all day if possible. Most people only drink water when they’re outside. While this isn’t necessarily bad, it can be too late. Always listen to your body and take breaks if you need to.

Summer time can be fun and many memories can be made. However, make sure you take care of yourself while you’re having a great time!
