Taking Chances In Life

So I’m coming at you with a different kind of post today. We’re talking about taking chances and going for what you want. Every day, I’m sure you’re bombarded with positive mantras and cute messages about living life how you want it and getting what you want. While these are great motivators, I highly most of us are applying this to our lives.

Recently I made the decision to give my two week notice at my job. This was absolutely terrifying for me. However, it was absolutely necessary. I’m a person who LOVES to learn and grow. I absolutely loved school and enjoy learning new things every day. The ability to challenge myself and grow truly brings me joy. I love to encourage others and challenge them to grow and learn about themselves.

While I was pouring into others and helping them reach new levels, I was neglecting my professional life. I was stuck in a job where I had not seen growth in the past three years. I went to school and my talents landed me this job but there was never any room for advancement. There isn’t a good reason as to why this is but I just knew that I was no longer growing. After much thought and prayer, I made the decision to leave.

Know What You Want

The key to getting the change your strive for (whether that’s in your personal or professional life) is to know EXACTLY what you want. You need to be specific. You  can’t just say “I would like something like this” Prior to leaving, I had my list of what it would take for me to stay with the company. They would not meet my needs so I knew staying wasn’t an option. If you’re in a relationship and that person isn’t willing to compromise, you aren’t doing yourself a favor by staying with them. If you’re trying to grow a business, you will not get there by taking on work that is not beneficial to your growth,

Set a Date and Follow Through

Be clear with yourself and set a date when you want this to happen. You need to be realistic as well. If you are looking for a better work opportunity and your current employer isn’t willing to help you grow in your timeline, then you have to decide whether it’s worth staying or not. If you are not politely persistent, your requests will fall by the wayside and you will be forgotten. You are the only person in charge of the change in your life!

Be Brave!

If I’m being totally honest, I’m terrified of my new adventure. However, I’m excited because I know I will be challenged and grow like I want to. I made the bold decision to walk in and hand my notice. Let me tell you, it was not received lightly. However, because I specifically knew what I wanted I knew it was the right decision. Whatever chance you are taking, you need to be brave and know that it’s for your personal growth and you will benefit in the long run!
