Happy Monday! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. My weekend went surprisingly well and I was able to knock out all my chores early in the day to have a semi-lazy Saturday. One thing that came in handy this weekend after my long run and spin class is my R8 Massage Roller! If you haven’t heard of this amazing recovery tool, you’re missing out!

When you exercise often, you’ll notice soreness and all kinds of muscle tightness. Stretching helps relieve some of the pain and soreness but one thing that always helps me is foam rolling. Foam rolling can get a bit uncomfortable sometimes but it helps to get rid of the waste products in your muscles that cause the adhesion and soreness. Due to the high amount of activity I am currently doing, you’ll usually find me foam rolling every night.

While foam rolling is great, I sometimes have trouble hitting certain spots on my legs. Long story short, depending on my training load, I had an old injury that likes to pop up and throw my running stride off balance. My muscles like to compensate for it with causes some muscles on one leg to be more sore than others. This needs to be address so as not to cause any more issues. With foam rolling, sometimes the pressure isn’t quite right and I can’t really get deep into those muscles. However recovery with my R8 Massage Roller is a different story!

Roll Recovery came up with this brilliant massage roller. It looks crazy but it’s super easy to use. The best part of it for me is that it’s easy to pack up in a backpack and travel with. I’ve already taken this to work a few times and I’m definitely packing it in my back for the Chicago Marathon. With the R8, you’re able to get deep tissue massage pressure onto each muscle so you’re really able to hit those tough spots. After my nine mile run this weekend, I thought my legs would be wrecked by the afternoon. I was pleasantly surprised that stretching and some time with my R8 got my legs fresh enough to make it through a 45 minute spin class later in the day. The R8 adjusts to all body sizes and types. It’s super simple to get it on your leg and hit all the small spots you miss with a traditional foam roller. I can whip it out while I’m on the couch and get some extra rolling in while watching TV!
