Race Weekend Recap!

Oh boy! What a weekend! It was definitely a scorcher. Y’all, I seriously don’t think Texas got the memo that it is OCTOBER. Saturday was record breaking heat at a high of 92.

Weekend pumpkin

All the pumpkin!

Speaking of October, I was so excited to find these at HEB Friday night! I’ve heard such great things and even if it doesn’t feel like fall, I love to enjoy all the goodies fall has to offer!

Saturday

Saturday was my second race in the Texas Bridge Series! It was a 10K across the Galveston causeway. It was a warm and humid morning. I felt good going into this race because I had been doing longer runs and not having much problem with them. I was just worried about the heat.

It was a bit of an early morning since this race was farther from home and we had to ride shuttles to the starting line. Everything went well and it was soon start time! I sipped my pre-workout before starting because I really wanted to push myself on this race.Weekend Race Medal

I started strong and raced with no music. There was a slight breeze but minimal cloud coverage. The temperature kept rising as the race went on.

My pace stayed steady and I felt so good throughout the race. One of the highlights was the cop at the top of the bridge handing out high fives. He was there for traffic control but he was a big motivator after getting up that dang bridge (twice!). I finished in 1:05 and I was so happy because it was five minutes faster than my first 10k.

The rest of the day was spent relaxing and heading to the bookstore and getting some dinner in the evening. I’m actually kind of glad the race was on a Saturday because the rest of the day was relaxing. I also drank like three gallons of water to make up for that morning!

Sunday

Sunday was a short run to break in my new shoes! This past week I’ve been dealing with some knee pain and after looking back, it was definitely time for new shoes. I wanted to go ahead and get shoes before I was hitting higher mileage weeks so I could get used to them. It was only a short one mile run since I was dealing with some hip tightness from the race.New Shoes Weekend

I took a relaxing bath in Epson salts and kept stretching. I hope to be pain-free by Tuesday so I can continue running. I’ve also made the (sad!) decision to stop doing to cycling classes until November. I want to make sure my hip won’t get worse and I don’t want to be doing too much activity and keep it from getting better.

How was your weekend? Did you run any races?
