My Running Mantra

I’ll be the first to admit that when that alarm goes off at 4AM, the LAST thing I want to do is get up. Some days, I’ll lay in bed and thoughts of quitting go through my mind. Other days, I’ll fly out of bed as soon as the alarm goes off. It takes discipline to keep doing it day after day but I found that having a mantra really helps.

My Running Mantra

I’m a firm believer that positive speak really affects your day. When I began running in college, I used to repeat negative thoughts in my mind until I would give up. People used to always tell me that your mind gives up faster than your body does. I would swear that was a lie until I finally began to change my outlook.

Running long distances is HARD. There’s no sugar coating. However, your body truly can keep going and keep pushing as long as there’s no injury. Taking care of your body is crucial but so is mental health!

I purchased a wrap from Momentum Jewelry and it’s truly helped me on runs when I just want to quit. I wear it when I run or have a hard workout ahead of me. By seeing it on my wrist, I focus on the positive message instead of the clock.

Believe, Endure, Achieve

It all starts with the belief that you can go that extra mile. It gets hard but pushing through the pain (not injury!) and getting uncomfortable gets you closer. Once you meet your goal, the cycle becomes a bit easier. When times get tough, I repeat this mantra to myself out loud. My legs are strong but my mind is weak and audible reminders help me the most.

I have a shirt with a bible verse that is another one of my favorite mantras when it comes with running.

“Let us run with endurance and active persistence the race that is set before us” – Hebrews 12:1 AMP

That mantra is such a great reminder that we have to work at it and be persistent to be successful. Whether it’s running or just a season of life, I like to reflect on this verse and really remind myself.

Do you have a favorite mantra or verse?
